We are only a week into August, and the Dayton area is already delivering one of the most event-packed months I can remember. The year has brought wave after wave of new restaurants, national chains entering our market for the first time, and a festival calendar that gives you something to do almost every night of the week.

I put this mid-month guide together to catch you up on everything that you may have missed. From bacon-themed food festivals and 80s new wave concerts to national restaurant chains planting their flag in Dayton for the very first time, here is what is happening across the greater Miami Valley right now.

Kicking Off This Week: August 6-12

The next seven days alone are packed. Here is what I have my eye on.

First Thursday Street Fair — West Carrollton (Tonight, August 6)

If you are looking for something to do tonight, the First Thursday Street Fair in West Carrollton is a great option. Live music, food vendors, local makers, and family activities make it a relaxed way to spend an early August evening. It is also a good reminder that the southern suburbs are building their own community traditions worth exploring.

Flite Fest & DARPA Lift Challenge — August 6-9 at the Air Force Museum

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is hosting Flite Fest 2026 from August 6-9, featuring the DARPA Lift Challenge alongside pilot passes and aircraft exhibits. For aviation enthusiasts, military families connected to Wright-Patt, and anyone who appreciates the unique role Dayton plays in aerospace history, this is a can't-miss event. Pilot passes run $50, but the DARPA Lift Challenge viewing is free. It is a powerful reminder that the birthplace of aviation is still at the forefront of flight innovation.

Fairborn Bluegrass and Brew Fest — August 7

Fairborn is hosting a Bluegrass and Brew Fest on August 7, pairing live bluegrass music with local craft beer. Fairborn has been on a roll with community events this year, and this one is a great chance to spend a summer evening enjoying two things that go together naturally: good music and good beer.

BaconFest 2026 — Kettering, August 8 (FREE)

Saturday August 8 from 4 to 10 PM at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering. BaconFest is one of the most popular food festivals in the Dayton area, and admission is completely free. Fifteen-plus vendors will be serving everything you can imagine made with bacon — bacon empanadas, bacon funnel cakes, bacon-topped burgers, and plenty of creative twists. The Miami Valley Restaurant Association partners on this event, and the live music lineup is always solid. I have been to BaconFest in past years and it draws a great crowd. If you are in Kettering or anywhere in the south suburbs this Saturday, put it on your list.

Stray Cats at Rose Music Center — August 10

The legendary rockabilly band Stray Cats perform at the Rose Music Center on August 10 at 8 PM with special guests Midnight Cowgirls. Brian Setzer and the band have been playing together for over four decades, and their live shows are as energetic as ever. A perfect summer concert at one of the region's best outdoor venues.

Goo Goo Dolls at Rose Music Center — August 12

The Goo Goo Dolls with Neon Trees perform at the Rose Music Center on August 12. From "Iris" and "Name" to "Slide" and "Better Days," the Goo Goo Dolls have been writing the soundtrack of American rock for more than 30 years. This is a big draw for anyone who grew up listening to them and a great concert for a summer evening.

Get The Led Out at Fraze Pavilion — August 12

If classic rock is more your style, Get The Led Out — widely considered the premier Led Zeppelin tribute experience in the country — is playing Fraze Pavilion in Kettering on the same night. It is a tough choice between Fraze and the Rose on August 12, but either way, you win.

Mid to Late August: Festivals, Fairs, and the Ultimate 80s Lineup

Miami County Fair — August 14-20, Troy

Just north of Dayton, the Miami County Fair runs August 14-20 in Troy. Classic Ohio county fair experience — midway rides, livestock competitions, demolition derbies, fair food, and live entertainment. If you have kids or just enjoy the atmosphere of a good county fair, it is worth the short drive up I-75.

Totally Tubular Festival — August 15 at Rose Music Center

I am particularly excited about this one. The Totally Tubular Festival on August 15 brings an absolutely stacked 80s new wave lineup to the Rose Music Center: A Flock of Seagulls, Men Without Hats, Thomas Dolby, Tommy Tutone, Animotion, The Escape Club, and The Producers — all on one stage. If you grew up on 80s music or just appreciate the era, this is the most fun concert lineup of the summer. I will be there.

Sierra Grand Opening — Beavercreek Towne Center, August 15

Sierra, the off-price outdoor retailer, holds its grand opening at Beavercreek Towne Center on August 15 with a ribbon cutting, giveaways, and a $10,000 donation to a local charity. Top brands for hiking, camping, and outdoor adventure at discounted prices. A significant addition to Beavercreek's retail corridor.

The Rock Orchestra Arena of Fire — August 27

A unique concert experience at the Rose Music Center on August 27. The Rock Orchestra Arena of Fire combines rock classics with dramatic lighting, choreography, and performance art. It is not your typical concert — more of a theatrical rock experience. Doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM.

Brothers Osborne — August 28 at Rose Music Center

Country music duo Brothers Osborne close out the August concert calendar at the Rose. Known for their distinctive sound and high-energy live shows, TJ and John Osborne have become one of the most respected acts in modern country music. A great way to cap off a month of incredible live music.

New Restaurants and Chains Coming to the Dayton Market

One of the most encouraging stories of 2026 has been the number of national restaurant chains choosing to enter the Dayton market for the first time. Here is the latest.

Sweetgreen

Sweetgreen, the national fast-casual salad and bowl chain, has announced its first Dayton-area location. For anyone who values fresh, seasonal ingredients served quickly, this is a major win. Sweetgreen has a cult following in cities across the country, and its arrival here signals that Dayton is on the radar of national brands in a serious way.

Paris Baguette

The international bakery-cafe chain Paris Baguette is entering the Dayton market. Known for its French-inspired pastries, artisan cakes, gourmet sandwiches, and specialty coffee, Paris Baguette has hundreds of locations worldwide and is expanding aggressively in the U.S. For anyone who has wished for a better bakery option in the Dayton area, this is welcome news.

Smalls Sliders

Smalls Sliders, the emerging burger chain known for its signature small smash burgers on Hawaiian rolls, is expanding into the Dayton area. The brand has been growing rapidly across the South and Midwest, and its arrival here adds another solid fast-casual burger option to a market that has been underserved in that category.

Keke's Breakfast Cafe

Keke's Breakfast Cafe, the popular Florida-based breakfast chain, is expanding into the Dayton market. Their menu features stuffed French toast, fluffy omelets, pancakes, and breakfast bowls — the kind of breakfast destination that families have been asking for. Given how busy every breakfast spot in the Dayton suburbs is on weekend mornings, this is a welcome arrival.

Mikey's Late Night Slice

The Columbus-based pizza brand known for serving slices until 2 AM is opening a downtown Dayton location. Mikey's has become an institution in Columbus for late-night food, and its expansion to Dayton fills a gap in the downtown late-night dining scene. Finally, a quality slice when you need it most.

Neon Lights — A New Speakeasy Downtown

Kim Frazier, a well-known name in Dayton hospitality, is opening Neon Lights, a speakeasy concept in downtown Dayton. Expect craft cocktails, an intimate atmosphere, and the kind of hidden-gem experience that makes a city feel like it has arrived. Downtown Dayton's bar scene continues to mature, and Neon Lights is a sign of that evolution.

Bleu Wave Seafood & Pho Opens in Beavercreek

A unique new dining concept has opened at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek. Bleu Wave Seafood & Pho combines fresh seafood and authentic Vietnamese pho under one roof. It is one of the most interesting new restaurant concepts in Beavercreek this year and gives shoppers at the mall a sit-down dining option that goes well beyond food court fare.

Crave Cure Kitchen Coming to West Carrollton

A new locally owned restaurant, Crave Cure Kitchen, is expected to open soon at the West Carrollton City Centre. The concept focuses on scratch-made comfort food — exactly the kind of place that builds community around a dining table. West Carrollton has been working to revitalize its commercial core, and Crave Cure Kitchen is a step in the right direction.

What Keeps Me Optimistic About This Region

I have been watching the Dayton market for over 20 years, and I have never seen this many national brands enter our market at the same time. Sweetgreen, Paris Baguette, Smalls Sliders, Keke's Breakfast Cafe — these are companies that do not open in markets they do not believe in. They have data, they have demographics, and they see something in Dayton that is worth investing in.

Combined with the festival energy — Flite Fest at the Air Force Museum, BaconFest in Kettering, the Totally Tubular Festival at the Rose, the Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival, Springboro ARTFest, and all the community block parties and concerts — there is an undeniable momentum here. It is a great time to live in the Dayton area, and I believe the best is still ahead.
