Running from 5:00 to 9:00 PM, it is one of the biggest mobile food events in the region and a great way to spend a summer evening downtown.

Brunch at the Brightside (July 21)

Brunch at the Brightside on July 21 takes the food truck rally concept and applies it to brunch. From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at The Brightside (905 E. 3rd Street), expect creative morning fare, mimosa flights, and a lineup of trucks that specialize in breakfast and brunch dishes. It is a newer event that has already built a strong following.

Dayton Mac & Cheese Fest (July 24)

Also at The Brightside, the Dayton Mac & Cheese Fest on July 24 from 5:00 to 10:00 PM is a food truck rally dedicated to everyone's favorite comfort food. Think loaded mac bowls, truffle mac, buffalo chicken mac, and creative twists you would not expect. It is one of the most fun food events of the summer — and it benefits local causes.

Dayton Summer Restaurant Week (Late July)

Dayton Summer Restaurant Week returns in late July, giving residents a chance to explore restaurants across the region through special prix-fixe menus. Participating restaurants offer set menus at reduced prices, making it an ideal time to try that spot you have been meaning to check out. It covers everything from casual to fine dining and spans the entire metro area. Destination Dayton publishes the full list of participating restaurants each year — it is worth checking their website for the most current lineup.

New Restaurant Openings You Should Know About

Beyond the food events, the past few weeks have brought several new restaurant openings that are worth noting — particularly in the south suburbs and Washington Township area, which has been one of the hottest corridors for new dining.

GoChop — African Street Food (Washington Township)

GoChop opened July 11 inside Global Gourmet in Washington Township, bringing authentic African street food to the south suburbs for the first time. The menu features bold flavors and dishes you will not find anywhere else in the Dayton area. It is exactly the kind of independent, culturally rich restaurant that makes a neighborhood more interesting — and it fills a gap in the Washington Township dining scene.

HFC Wings & Tenders — Second Location (Washington Township)

HFC Wings & Tenders, the local family-owned hot chicken concept, opened its second location on June 23 at 549 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Township. The original built a strong following quickly, and this second location brings their crispy tenders and heat-level options closer to the Centerville and south-suburb market.

Crave Cure Kitchen (West Carrollton)

Crave Cure Kitchen is a new online-order-only fast food concept at 1933 S. Alex Road in West Carrollton, expected to open mid-July or August. It represents a newer model for quick-service dining — order ahead, pick up, and go — and it is positioned to serve the growing south-suburb corridor.

Bravo Italian Kitchen — Coming Soon (Beavercreek)

Bravo Italian Kitchen is listed as "Coming Soon" on its official website for the Mall at Fairfield Commons location in Beavercreek. This would be a significant addition to the Fairfield Commons dining corridor, which has seen strong growth over the past two years with Dillard's, Panda Express, and other new tenants.

Slim Chickens / Big Chicken Expansion (Dayton Metro)

A deal with restaurant operator Big Star Chicken plans to open as many as 25 Slim Chickens and/or Big Chicken restaurants across the Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton markets over the next five to ten years. Slim Chickens is a fast-casual chicken concept that has been expanding rapidly across the South and Midwest, and Dayton is part of its next growth phase.
