I track these openings and events because they tell me something real about where this region is headed. A new retailer in Beavercreek, a first-of-its-kind chain restaurant breaking ground in Tipp City, a fine dining option opening in Vandalia, and a festival lineup that runs from Germanfest through Holiday at Home and the Air Force Marathon -- this is a region that keeps moving forward.

Grand Openings and New Businesses

Sierra Grand Opening at Beavercreek Towne Center

The grand opening celebration for Sierra at Beavercreek Towne Center is happening August 15. There will be a DJ, giveaways, and a ribbon cutting at 2850 Centre Drive. Sierra is the off-price outdoor retailer from the TJ Maxx family of brands, carrying top names in camping, hiking, activewear, and outdoor gear at discounted prices. For anyone in Beavercreek, Fairborn, or the eastern suburbs who enjoys the outdoors, this is a fantastic addition to the local shopping scene. It also tells you something about where Beavercreek is headed as a regional retail destination.

The Socialite Club Brings Fine Dining to Vandalia

Vandalia has a new fine dining option. The Socialite Club opened in July 2026 at the Cassel Hills Clubhouse. Located within the Cassel Hills Golf Course, this restaurant offers an elevated dining experience in a setting that combines clubhouse comfort with refined cuisine. It is a welcome addition for Vandalia residents and anyone looking for a nice dinner out on the north side of the Dayton metro.

Gum Spot Fabrics Opens in Beavercreek

A brand-new small business, Gum Spot Fabrics, opened its doors on July 31 at 1350 North Fairfield Road in Beavercreek. This is a craft and fabric store serving sewers, quilters, and creative makers on the east side. It is always encouraging to see a new small business take root in the community. If you sew or quilt, stop in and support local.

New Chain Restaurant Breaks Ground in Tipp City

The City of Tipp City is preparing for significant commercial growth. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in April 2026 for a first-of-its-kind chain restaurant in the city, part of a broader retail revitalization project. While the specific restaurant name has not yet been announced, this is a strong signal that Tipp City is attracting new investment. The retail corridor along Main Street continues to evolve, and this project is worth watching.

Late August Events: Festivals, Concerts, and Community Celebrations

Germanfest Picnic (August 14-16)

Dayton's German heritage takes center stage this weekend at the 43rd annual Germanfest Picnic at the Dayton Liederkranz Turner on East Fifth Street. Three days of authentic German food, live music, a car show, dance lessons, and a family-friendly atmosphere make this one of the most cherished traditions in the Miami Valley. If you have never been, this is a great year to experience it. The food alone is worth the trip.

Dayton African American Cultural Festival (August 15-16)

The two-day Dayton African American Cultural Festival returns to downtown Dayton with a vibrant celebration of African American culture. Live music and dance performances, art exhibits, storytelling, soul food, and a marketplace featuring Black-owned local businesses. This festival draws a warm, diverse crowd from across the Miami Valley every year and is one of the most meaningful events on the late-summer calendar.

Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival (August 15-16)

Fairborn's Sweet Corn Festival is back for its 44th year at Community Park. With over 180 arts and crafts booths, food vendors serving fresh sweet corn, BBQ chicken, and pork chop sandwiches, live entertainment, and children's activities, this is one of the best community festivals in the region. Free admission and free parking. It is the kind of event that makes Fairborn a special place to live.

5 After 5 at the Dayton Art Institute (August 20)

The Dayton Art Institute's popular after-hours series continues on August 20 from 5 to 8 PM. This month's edition features a special pipe organ performance alongside the galleries, a cash bar, and a relaxed evening atmosphere. It is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience one of the region's greatest cultural assets.

Dayton Porchfest 2026 (August 22)

One of the most unique events in Dayton returns on August 22. Porchfest is exactly what it sounds like: local musicians performing on residential porches throughout Dayton's historic neighborhoods. You walk or bike from porch to porch, discovering new music and exploring the city's architectural character at the same time. It is free, family-friendly, and one of those events that makes Dayton feel like a real community. Check the route map and plan your walk.

Jefferson Township Day (August 22)

The annual Jefferson Township Day celebration takes place on August 22 at Arthur O Fisher Park. Food, games, live entertainment, and family activities in a community park setting. A great way to spend a late-summer Saturday.

That Arena Rock Show at Fraze Pavilion (August 22)

Fraze Pavilion in Kettering hosts That Arena Rock Show on August 22. This high-energy tribute concert experience brings the big arena rock anthems of the 70s and 80s to one of the best outdoor venues in the region. Fraze is a gem: intimate enough that every seat feels close, and beautiful on a summer evening.

Bourbon Fest at The Greene (August 29)

The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek is hosting a Bourbon Fest on August 29 with live music by Stranger. Sample fine bourbons, enjoy the atmosphere at one of Beavercreek's premier gathering spots, and cap off the summer with an evening out. The Greene has become a true community hub, and events like this add to its appeal.

Art For All Day at the Dayton Art Institute (August 29)

The Dayton Art Institute is offering free admission all day on August 29 from 11 AM to 5 PM. Explore the permanent collection, special exhibitions, and family-friendly art activities. It is a perfect cultural outing for families, couples, or anyone who has not visited the DAI in a while.

Labor Day Weekend: Holiday at Home in Kettering

One of the most anticipated events of the entire year in the Dayton area is Kettering's Holiday at Home, running August 30 through September 1 at Delco Park. This Labor Day weekend tradition features over 100 arts and crafts vendors, food booths, live music, a parade, and activities for the whole family. Holiday at Home draws thousands of people from across the region every year, and for good reason -- it is one of the best community festivals in Ohio.

If you live in Kettering or anywhere in the south suburbs, mark your calendar. This is the event that closes out summer and kicks off fall on a high note.

Levitt Pavilion Free Concert Series Continues

The Levitt Pavilion in downtown Dayton continues its outstanding free concert series through the end of August. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy live music under the summer sky. The remaining lineup includes:

Early September: What Is Coming Up

Beavercreek Popcorn Festival (September 12)

The Beavercreek Popcorn Festival returns on September 12 from 11 AM to 8 PM in downtown Beavercreek. This is Beavercreek's signature community event -- fresh popcorn, craft vendors, live entertainment, food, and family fun. It celebrates everything that makes Beavercreek a great place to live and is always one of the best-attended events in Greene County. I will be there, and I hope to see you there too.

Launch Dayton Startup Week (September 15-17)

Presented by Fifth Third Bank and Winsupply, Launch Dayton Startup Week is a three-day event at The Hub Powered by PNC featuring talks, workshops, and networking for entrepreneurs. Dayton's startup ecosystem continues to grow, and this event showcases the innovation and energy driving the region forward.

Air Force Marathon 5K (September 18)

The 30th Air Force Marathon weekend kicks off with a 5K run and walk on September 18 at the Wright State University Nutter Center in Fairborn. This event is part of the larger Air Force Marathon weekend and is a great way to participate in one of the most inspiring athletic events in the region. Whether you run or walk, the energy around the Air Force Marathon is unmatched.

Beer Fest x Hot Diggity Dog Fest at The Greene (September 19)

Craft beer and gourmet hot dogs come together at The Greene on September 19. Local breweries, creative hot dog vendors, live music, and a great fall atmosphere. This is a fun, relaxed event that brings the community together around two things everyone loves.

Party on the Golf Range at Beavercreek Golf Club (September 23)

End the month with an evening at Beavercreek Golf Club on September 23. Live music by Jukebox Apocalypse, food, drinks, and range balls. A relaxed community gathering on one of the nicest courses in the area. You do not need to be a golfer to enjoy this one.
