Late October into November:
Wag O Ween, Veterans Day
& the Holiday Kickoff.
By Jason White
Fresh for late October and November 2026 across the greater Dayton area and suburbs: Wag O Ween brings the dogs to the Kettering Recreation Complex on October 24, Veterans Day ceremonies anchor Beavercreek, Centerville, Kettering, and Fairborn on November 11, the Dayton Holiday Festival kicks off with the 96th annual Waffle Shop and Deck the Diamond, and Mystic Pizza and the Vienna Boys Choir land downtown the first weekend of November. On the dining front, Mar'Tae Kitchen and Cocktails is now serving soul food and craft cocktails in Trotwood, and I have the honest status of every restaurant project still on the tracker.
Last week's guide covered the Fairborn Halloween Festival, Pumpkin Glow in Xenia, and the fresh eats near Wright State. This is everything new since, plus the full trick-or-treat schedule for every suburb and the holiday events you will want on the calendar before the season fills up.
Here is everything fresh I have not covered before.
Wag O Ween: Kettering's Dog-Friendly Halloween Party
Saturday, October 24 at the Kettering Recreation Complex
Kettering's free Wag O Ween event runs Saturday, October 24 from 1-3 p.m. at the Kettering Recreation Complex, 5055 Delaware Ave. It is the dog version of trick-or-treating: pups walk the stops collecting treats, there is a pet costume contest, and games and vendors fill the grounds. Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome, and it is a low-key, daylight-friendly way to get the whole family, four legs included, into the Halloween spirit. Details are on the official event page at playkettering.org.
The Full Trick-or-Treat Schedule, Suburb by Suburb
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and nearly every community keeps the traditional 6-8 p.m. window on October 31: Beavercreek, Centerville, Kettering, Springboro, Bellbrook, Xenia, Fairborn, and Vandalia all trick-or-treat Saturday night. The one exception is Tipp City, which holds Beggars' Night on the Thursday before, October 29 from 6-8 p.m. The schedules were published in early October 2026, and cities occasionally adjust, so a quick check of your city's page near the date is always wise. Before the neighborhood rounds, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force runs its free Troops & Treats on Halloween morning, October 31 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., covered in my mid-October guide.
The Ohio Renaissance Festival's Final Weekend
October 31-November 1 in Waynesville
The Ohio Renaissance Festival closes its 2026 season Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 at Renaissance Park in Waynesville, about 30 minutes south of the metro. The finale weekend is the Heroes & Villains theme, with full-contact jousting, giant turkey legs, and the complete 16th-century village. It is a fun, slightly different way to spend Halloween day before the candy rounds, and I have the full season rundown in my Ohio Renaissance Festival guide.
Veterans Day: Ceremonies Across the Suburbs
Wednesday, November 11, 2026
Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday this year, and the suburbs mark it with community ceremonies. Beavercreek holds its ceremony at 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 1911 N. Fairfield Road. Centerville gathers at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Stubbs Park, 255 W. Spring Valley Road. Kettering holds its ceremony at 11 a.m. at Veterans Plaza in Delco Park. And Fairborn hosts its observance at 11 a.m. at Fairborn United Methodist Church, 100 N. Broad St., with the Dignam-Whitmore American Legion Post 526. These are the traditional annual formats for each city, so confirm the exact time on your city's calendar as the date approaches.
Plane Talks at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force
The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force marks the holiday with its signature Plane Talks program, scheduled for Saturday, November 7 in honor of Veterans Day: veterans, active-duty personnel, and subject-matter experts station themselves throughout the galleries near the aircraft tied to their expertise to tell their stories and answer questions. Admission and parking are free every day, and the museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. For military families at Wright-Patterson and anyone who wants to honor those who served, it is the anchor of the week.
From Wag O Ween in Kettering to the holiday kickoff downtown, the calendar turns fast once Halloween is behind us.
The First Weekend of November: Downtown Dayton Lights Up
First Friday, Mystic Pizza & the Vienna Boys Choir
Friday, November 6 is a stacked downtown night. First Friday returns from 5-10 p.m. with galleries, shops, restaurants, and live music open late across the Oregon District and beyond, free as always. At the Schuster Center, Mystic Pizza: A New Musical opens its two-night run on November 6-7, the coming-of-age story based on the 1988 film. And at the Victoria Theatre, the Vienna Boys Choir performs its holiday program on November 6 at 7:30 p.m., a warm early-November tradition for families. The next morning, Saturday, November 7, the Bellbrook Handmade Holiday market brings local artisans and early holiday shopping to Bellbrook.
The Holiday Season Officially Begins
The Dayton Holiday Festival kicks off mid-month: the 96th annual Waffle Shop runs November 11-14 at Christ Episcopal Church downtown, and Deck the Diamond lights up Day Air Ballpark on November 14. In Miamisburg, the Cozy and Bookish Market on November 14 at 16 Water Street pairs local authors and handmade goods with warm drinks, a short drive from Centerville and Springboro. And Thanksgiving week, the Broadway tour of Clue plays the Schuster Center November 24-29, a perfect post-turkey outing. The Victoria Theatre rounds out the month with Nurse Blake on November 20, Christmas with Cantus on November 21, and Love Actually in Concert on November 28, while Fraze Pavilion screens Black Panther as a Fraze Flicks movie on November 26.
The Restaurant Tracker: Mar'Tae Now Open in Trotwood
Mar'Tae Kitchen and Cocktails: Soul Food and Craft Cocktails
The freshest dining news is in northwest Montgomery County. Mar'Tae Kitchen and Cocktails at 5212 Salem Avenue in Trotwood is the elevated soul food project from siblings Tae Winston and Mark Lee, serving Sunday brunch and Wednesday-Saturday dinner with a full craft cocktail program. After a brief closure following its initial opening, it re-opened in March 2026 and has been building a following. It is a welcome new option for the Trotwood and northwest Dayton dining scene, and a reminder that the region's food story is bigger than the mall corridors.
The Rest of the Tracker: Honest Status, No Dates Yet
Every project I have been following since the summer is still moving, with no confirmed dates. Get the Pho Out is announced for West Stroop Road in Kettering, Kawa Revolving Sushi has its Austin Landing space confirmed, Scramblers keeps building out at The Greene, Black Rock Bar and Grill is still on the way to the Mall at Fairfield Commons, Whoa Dogs has its Oregon District lease finalized, and Hummus and Garlic is preparing the former So Pizza space near the Dayton Mall. I will share each opening date the moment it is confirmed.
Why I Track All of This
This is the stretch of the year when the calendar turns from Halloween to the holidays, and every suburb has its own way of marking it. A dog costume contest in Kettering, Veterans Day ceremonies in four communities, the holiday kickoff downtown, and a new soul food kitchen in Trotwood: taken together, that is a region families are choosing on purpose.
For buyers, this is the context that makes a community feel like home before the offer is ever written. For sellers, it means your street sits inside a region with the kind of energy that keeps demand steady even as the year winds down. And for anyone considering the move from another state, this is the Dayton I know: welcoming, active, and full of reasons to put down roots.
Whether you are buying, selling, or just curious about what your home might be worth, I am here with straight answers and a strategy that fits your situation.
"From Wag O Ween in Kettering to Veterans Day ceremonies in four suburbs to the holiday kickoff downtown, this is when our neighborhoods do what they do best, and I want my clients to feel as close to it as I do."
