The Fourth of July is behind us, but the summer event calendar across the greater Dayton area is far from over. August and September bring some of the best events of the year — county fairs, music festivals, community traditions, and the signature events that define each suburb's identity. Whether you live in Beavercreek, Centerville, Kettering, Xenia, Fairborn, Tipp City, Vandalia, Bellbrook, or Springboro, there is something worth putting on your calendar.

I have put together a suburb-by-suburb guide to what is happening across the Dayton metro through the end of September. This is the kind of information I share with my clients because knowing a community means knowing what happens in it — not just the home values, but the festivals, the traditions, and the moments that bring people together.

August 2026: The Events Worth Your Time

August is the busiest month on the Dayton event calendar. From county fairs to rock concerts to community gatherings, every weekend has something going on.

Greene County Fair — Xenia (August 2–8)

The Greene County Fair is a week-long celebration that anchors the summer in Xenia. Rides, livestock competitions, harness racing, a demolition derby, truck and tractor pulls, and live entertainment run daily from 8:00 AM through the week. For families in Xenia, Bellbrook, Beavercreek, and the surrounding communities, this is one of the signature events of the season.

DARPA Lift Challenge — National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (August 6)

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton hosts the DARPA Lift Challenge on August 6. This free event showcases cutting-edge aviation technology and is a reminder that Dayton is not just a great place to live — it is the birthplace of aviation, and the Air Force Museum is one of the most impressive museums anywhere.

Putterpalooza — Downtown Tipp City (August 7)

Tipp City's downtown continues to be one of the most charming in the region, and Putterpalooza on August 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM is a perfect example of what makes it special. A community putt-putt golf event through downtown — family-friendly, casual, and exactly the kind of event that defines small-town charm in the Dayton suburbs.

Goo Goo Dolls with Neon Trees — Fraze Pavilion (August 12)

The Goo Goo Dolls bring their summer tour to Fraze Pavilion in Kettering on August 12 with special guest Neon Trees. Fraze consistently brings national acts to the Miami Valley, and this is one of the biggest concerts of the season. If you have not been to a show at Fraze, it is one of the best outdoor concert venues in Ohio — intimate enough to feel close to the stage, large enough to draw major talent.

Germanfest Picnic — Dayton (August 14–16)

Germanfest Picnic is one of Dayton's most beloved traditions. Three days of German food, beer, music, and community at the Dayton Liederkranz Turner. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it is a great way to experience the cultural depth of this city.

Totally Tubular Festival — Rose Music Center (August 15)

A Flock of Seagulls, Thomas Dolby, Tommy Tutone, The Motels, Animotion, and more perform the biggest hits of the 1980s at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights on August 15. If you grew up on 80s music, this is a must-attend.

Greene County Home Show — Xenia (August 21)

The FREE Greene County Home Show at the Greene County Expo Center on August 21 features local vendors, contractors, and home improvement resources. For homeowners and buyers in Xenia, Beavercreek, Bellbrook, and the surrounding area, this is a practical and useful event.

Dayton Porchfest — St. Anne's Hill (August 22)

Dayton Porchfest takes over the St. Anne's Hill Historic District with free mini concerts performed on front porches throughout the neighborhood. It is one of the most uniquely Dayton events of the summer — a celebration of music, community, and one of the city's most charming neighborhoods.

Bret Michaels and Great White — Rose Music Center (August 29)

Rock legends Bret Michaels and Great White close out the summer concert calendar at the Rose Music Center in Huber Heights on August 29. A late-summer highlight for rock fans across the metro.

September 2026: The Big Ones

September brings the events that define the fall season in the Dayton area — the Popcorn Festival, the Air Force Marathon, and the signature fall traditions that each community is known for.

Beavercreek Popcorn Festival (September 12–13)

The Beavercreek Popcorn Festival is consistently ranked among the top 100 events in North America by the American Bus Association. Over 200 booths line Dayton-Xenia Road with food, crafts, popcorn treats, and live entertainment. It draws over 150,000 visitors across the weekend and is one of the signature events of the fall season. For Beavercreek residents, it is a point of pride — and for visitors, it is one of the best reasons to experience what this community is about.

U.S. Air Force Marathon Weekend — Fairborn (September 18–19)

The premier running event in the region, the Air Force Marathon features a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and surrounding areas. With approximately 13,500 participants from across the country, it is a source of pride for the entire region. The events, expos, and finish-line celebrations create an energy that spills into Fairborn and Beavercreek.

Tipp City Mum Festival (September 26–27)

The Tipp City Mum Festival is one of the largest fall festivals in the region. Over 250 vendor booths, food, live music, a car cruise-in, the Run for the Mums, and kids' activities fill City Park for a weekend of community celebration. Free admission makes it accessible to everyone. It is the kind of event that reminds you why Tipp City's downtown community is so special.

Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute (September 26)

Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute is one of the city's signature fall events. German food, beer, live music, and the stunning backdrop of the Art Institute's Italian Renaissance-style architecture. It is a major annual fundraiser and consistently one of the best-attended events of the fall season.

After 20 years in this market, I have learned that the strength of a community shows up in more than just home prices and school ratings. It shows up in the festivals people attend, the traditions they carry forward, the new events they create, and the way neighbors come together.

Every event on this calendar is a reflection of a community that is investing in itself. The Popcorn Festival in Beavercreek, the Mum Festival in Tipp City, the Air Force Marathon in Fairborn, the Greene County Fair in Xenia — these are not just events. They are markers of community health, identity, and pride.
