Dayton Arcade North Arcade: Fully Restored and Growing

The Dayton Arcade revival is one of the most important developments in the city in decades. The North Arcade retail marketplace opened on March 6, 2026, completing the $168 million transformation of this historic landmark. The 7,500-square-foot marketplace features 10 retail spaces that celebrate both legacy Dayton businesses and new artisan concepts.

The initial opening included tenants like Smales Pretzel Bakery, a Dayton institution, along with Luke's Custom Cakes, Pink Moon Goods, and Tiffany's on Third. In July 2026, a second wave of tenants was announced, adding even more depth to the marketplace. The North Arcade is not just a retail space. It is the centerpiece of a broader revitalization of the downtown core, connecting the existing Arcade restaurants and apartments to the streetscape in a way that makes downtown Dayton feel like a destination again. Buc-ee's: Ohio's First Location is a Regional Destination

If you have driven I-70 near Huber Heights recently, you have probably noticed the Buc-ee's. It opened on April 6, 2026 at 8000 Ohio 235, and it has been drawing visitors from across the state all summer. At 74,000 square feet with 108 fuel pumps and EV charging stations, it is one of the largest Buc-ee's in the country, and it operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I have made the drive myself, and I have to say — the sheer scale of it is something to see. Beyond the gas pumps, the store features the brand's famous brisket, Beaver Nuggets, fresh fudge, and an enormous selection of road trip essentials. For anyone living in the northern suburbs of Dayton, Huber Heights just became a notable destination in its own right.

Dayton International Airport: A Dining Transformation

The Dayton International Airport in Vandalia has undergone a major dining overhaul. Tailwind Hospitality secured a five-year agreement that began in January 2026, and the phased openings rolled out through June and July. The new lineup includes Warped Wing Brewery, bringing one of the region's best craft beer brands to the airport, an expanded full-service Dunkin', a new pizza concept, and two revamped sit-down restaurants.

For anyone who remembers the days of limited airport food options, this is a significant upgrade. Whether you are flying out or just picking someone up, the airport now offers a dining experience that actually reflects the quality of the Dayton food scene. Warped Wing alone is worth the trip — their Thermo Nuclear IPA and seasonal offerings are some of the best beers brewed in Ohio.

New Restaurants Across Dayton and the Suburbs

Downtown Dayton

Resonant, a new concept from a proven hospitality team, is opening soon in downtown Dayton and has been generating significant anticipation. The Silos has expanded its downtown operations, adding lunch service to its already popular menu. And the family behind Gulzar's, a Dayton dining institution, announced a new sports-themed restaurant that will bring a fresh energy to the downtown dining scene.

On the investment front, a major skyscraper proposal and a new wine destination in the historic Wright-Dunbar District were announced in June 2026. While still in the proposal stage, the news signals real momentum for downtown Dayton's future.

Beavercreek

Beavercreek continues to add dining and retail options at a steady pace. Toasted Brunch Bar + Cafe opened a new location near The Greene with a grand opening on February 14, 2026. Scramblers is nearing its opening at The Greene in the former Taste of Belgium space. Panda Express is under construction at 2761 Fairfield Commons near the Mall at Fairfield Commons.

And L.L.Bean is planning to open its first Dayton-area store at The Greene in Fall 2026. The 10,600-square-foot store will be a significant addition to one of the region's most popular shopping destinations.

Centerville and Washington Township

Currito, a fast-casual restaurant known for customizable bowls, salads, and wraps, opened its first Dayton-area location in February 2026 at the Whole Foods Center on Miami Centerville Road. CAVA, the fast-growing Mediterranean chain, has confirmed its first Dayton-area location at 1111 Miamisburg Centerville Road in Washington Township, near Sam's Club. Both additions strengthen the dining options along the south-suburb corridor.

Greater Dayton Area

A 125-year-old Cincinnati deli chain announced plans to open its first Greater Dayton store in 2026. While the specific location has not been finalized, this is the kind of legacy brand that brings loyal customers with it, and I expect it will be a welcome addition wherever it lands. A Dayton-area brewpub was also sold, and the new owners plan to debut a bierhall concept during summer 2026, adding another option to the region's growing craft beer scene.

Housing Development: Rockford Homes Arrives in Dayton

Rockford Homes, a builder with a strong reputation across Ohio, announced it is expanding into the Dayton area with two new communities — one in Beavercreek and one in Huber Heights — coming in late 2026. For buyers looking for new construction in these high-demand areas, this adds meaningful inventory at a time when resale inventory remains tight in many price ranges.

On the public investment side, the Ohio state capital budget earmarked more than $21 million for Dayton-region projects in 2026, including the STEM Talent Development Complex on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. This investment signals continued state-level commitment to the aerospace and defense sectors that anchor the regional economy.

Late Summer and Fall Events Across the Dayton Area

Late July

The Dayton Celtic Festival returns to RiverScape MetroPark on July 24-26 with free admission, five headliner bands, and Celtic music, dance, and food. It is one of the best weekends of the summer in downtown Dayton.

August

Art in the City takes over downtown Dayton on August 1 with live performances, art demonstrations, and vendors. The Greene County Fair runs August 2-8 in Xenia with rides, livestock shows, and grandstand entertainment. The Dayton Liederkranz Turner Germanfest Picnic is August 14-16, a three-day celebration of German heritage with authentic food, music, and dancing.

September

Kettering hosts two major events over Labor Day weekend. Alterfest on September 4-6 is a community festival with rides, food, and entertainment, and the Italian Fall Festa runs the same weekend at St. Albert the Great Parish with Italian food, music, and cultural celebration. The Beavercreek Popcorn Festival returns September 12-13 with 300-plus booths, a car show, and a 5K run on Dayton-Xenia Road.

The Dayton Art Institute Oktoberfest on September 25-27 is Dayton's longest-running Oktoberfest, featuring live music, 50-plus craft beers, artisan vendors, and family activities on the museum grounds. It is one of those events that truly brings the community together.

October

The Centerville Fall Festival takes place October 3 at Stubbs Park with hayrides, inflatables, face painting, and games. The Pumpkin Glow at Caesar Ford Park in Xenia runs October 22-24 with illuminated jack-o-lanterns, hayrides, and fall family activities. Beggars Night on Halloween is celebrated across Bellbrook, Fairborn, Xenia, and Yellow Springs from 6 to 8 p.m.
