The Fourth of July fireworks have come and gone, but the Greater Dayton area is just hitting its stride. From Bacon Fest and Art on the Commons in Kettering to the Greene County Fair in Xenia, from ZZ Top rolling into Fraze Pavilion to the Air Force Marathon wrapping up the season in September — the calendar is packed. On top of that, new restaurants and businesses continue to open across the suburbs at a pace I have not seen in years.

I put this guide together for anyone who lives here, is considering a move, or just wants to know what is going on across Dayton and its surrounding communities — Beavercreek, Centerville, Kettering, Xenia, Fairborn, Springboro, Bellbrook, Tipp City, and Vandalia. This is your mid-summer rundown.

Events Worth Putting on Your Calendar

The second half of summer in the Dayton area is packed with festivals, concerts, and community events. Here are the ones worth your time — from major festivals to free concerts to the signature events that define each community.

Party in the Park — Centerville (July 10 & August 14)

The Heart of Centerville Washington Township hosts Party in the Park at Stubbs Park on July 10 and August 14. These are family-friendly events with live music, food, and a community atmosphere that captures exactly why Centerville is one of the most desirable suburbs in the area. The July 10 event features the Stranger and the Fries Band from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.

Dayton UFO Conference — Fairborn (July 11)

Fairborn's unique identity is on full display at the Dayton UFO Conference, held at 2800 Presidential Drive. The event features panels, vendors, and contests celebrating the area's connection to the 1947 Roswell incident and the broader culture of ufology. Fairborn leans into its heritage in a way that is entirely its own.

Industrial Strength Bluegrass Summer Fest — Xenia (July 16–18)

A three-day outdoor bluegrass festival at the Greene County Fairgrounds hosted by Joe Mullins. The event draws bluegrass fans from across the region and has become one of the signature music events in Greene County.

United Irish of Dayton Celtic Festival (July 24–26)

Three days of live Celtic music, Irish dancing, food, and cultural exhibits at RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton. Free admission. The riverfront setting makes it one of the most scenic festival experiences in the region, regularly drawing over 90,000 attendees across the weekend.

Beavercreek Summer Entertainment Series

Beavercreek's free Summer Entertainment Series continues through August with community concerts featuring music, dancing, and family fun. Events are held on select dates at various venues throughout the city. Check the City of Beavercreek website for the full schedule and locations.

August: The Biggest Month

August is when the Dayton area goes all out. Here is what the first three weeks look like.

Small Farm and Food Fest (August 1) — A celebration of local farms and farm-to-table dining in Dayton. For anyone who values the agricultural roots of this region, this is a great way to spend a Saturday.

Polish Summer Festival (August 2) — A heritage celebration in Dayton featuring Polish food, music, and cultural traditions.

Bacon Fest (August 8) — Bacon Fest at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering is one of the most popular events of the summer. Local vendors serve creative bacon-inspired dishes paired with drinks and live music. This year it falls on August 8 from 4:00 to 10:00 PM.

Art on the Commons (August 9) — The 38th annual Art on the Commons at Lincoln Park Civic Commons in Kettering. Over 100 artists, live music, and family activities from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. One of the most well-attended art events in the region.

Greene County Fair (August 2–8) — A week-long celebration of summer in Xenia with rides, livestock competitions, food vendors, and live entertainment. A signature event for families in Xenia, Bellbrook, and surrounding communities.

Goo Goo Dolls at Fraze Pavilion (August 12) — The Goo Goo Dolls with Neon Trees bring their summer tour to Fraze in Kettering. One of the highlights of the concert season.

Germanfest Picnic (August 14–16) — One of Dayton's most beloved traditions. Three days of German food, beer, music, and community at the Dayton Liederkranz Turner.

Kettering Block Party (August 19) — A community block party in Kettering with food, games, and live entertainment.

Dayton Porchfest (August 22) — Free mini concerts performed on front porches throughout the St. Anne's Hill Historic District. One of the most uniquely Dayton events of the summer.

ZZ Top at Fraze Pavilion (August 30) — "The Big One!" tour brings the legendary rock band to Fraze at 7:30 PM. Gates open at 6:30 PM.

September: Closing Out the Season

As summer winds down, the calendar stays full.

Alterfest (September 4–6, Kettering) — A community festival with food, music, and activities in Kettering.

Reggae Fest (September 5, Dayton) — Reggae music and culture celebration in Dayton.

U.S. Air Force Marathon Weekend (September 18–19, Fairborn / WPAFB) — The premier running event in the region features a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It draws runners from across the country and is a source of pride for the entire region.

Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute (September 25–27) — One of Dayton's signature fall events. A major annual fundraiser with food, beer, live music, and the stunning backdrop of the Art Institute's Italian Renaissance-style architecture.

Levitt Pavilion Concert Season (through September 19) — Free concerts every Thursday through Sunday evening at 7:00 PM. No tickets needed — just show up and enjoy live music in downtown Dayton.

New Restaurants and Grand Openings

The restaurant scene across the Dayton metro continues to evolve. Here is what has opened recently and what is on the way.

Mudlick Tap House — Centerville

Mudlick Tap House opened a new Centerville location, bringing its craft beer selection and elevated bar food to the south suburbs. It is a solid addition to the Centerville dining scene and a convenient option for anyone in the Washington Township area.

Kawa Revolving Sushi — Beavercreek

The region's first revolving sushi bar is now open on Centre Drive in Beavercreek, in the former Jason's Deli space. Kawa brings a unique dining concept to the area — conveyor belt-style sushi service with a full menu of Japanese dishes. It has been generating strong local interest since its soft opening.

Resonant — Oregon District, Downtown Dayton

Resonant is the most anticipated restaurant opening in Dayton this year. From the owners of Grist, it is a multi-course tasting-menu experience at 524 E. Fifth St. in the Oregon District. The four-course dinner runs 90 to 105 minutes and represents a level of fine dining that downtown Dayton has been building toward for years. Opened June 18, 2026.

Toasted Brunch Bar + Cafe — Near The Greene, Beavercreek

Toasted Brunch Bar + Cafe opened its second location near The Greene in February 2026, bringing its popular brunch menu to one of Beavercreek's busiest retail corridors. The expansion reflects strong demand for quality breakfast and brunch options in the area.

Einstein Bros. Bagels — Dayton Area

Einstein Bros. Bagels opened its first Dayton-area location in June 2026, bringing the national bagel chain to the local market for the first time. A welcome addition for anyone who has been driving to Columbus or Cincinnati for a decent bagel.

L.L.Bean — The Greene, Beavercreek (Coming Fall 2026)

L.L.Bean is planning to open a 10,600-square-foot store at The Greene in fall 2026 — its first location in the Dayton market. The store will occupy the former Forever 21 space. A significant addition for The Greene and a signal that the shopping center continues to attract quality national tenants.

One of the things I have learned after 20 years in this market is that the strength of a community shows up in more than just home prices and school ratings. It shows up in the festivals, the restaurants, the businesses that choose to open here, and the way people come together.
