Summer in the Dayton area just keeps getting busier. As we move past the Fourth of July celebrations and into the second half of the season, there are a host of new events and developments I haven't had a chance to write about yet. From the Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival to the Beavercreek Popcorn Festival, new restaurants at the Dayton airport, and major retail and residential developments taking shape across the suburbs, there is a lot to keep up with.

Here is my updated guide to what is new across the greater Dayton area through late summer and early fall 2026.

New Events You Do Not Want to Miss

Some of the best events of the summer are still ahead of us. Here are the ones I have been hearing the most buzz about.

Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival (August 15-16)

The 44th annual Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival returns to Community Park on August 15-16. This is one of the most beloved community events in the region, with over 130 craft and art vendors, endless sweet corn, corn-eating contests, live entertainment, and children's activities. Admission and parking are free, making it an easy and affordable family outing. The festival has grown every year and is a highlight of the Fairborn summer calendar.

Bellbrook Lions Club SummerFest (August 14-15)

The Bellbrook Lions Club hosts its annual SummerFest at the old Sugarcreek School grounds on August 14-15. This is the kind of small-town community event that makes Bellbrook such a special place to live. Food, games, live music, and a chance to connect with neighbors in one of the Dayton area's most charming communities.

In another sign of Bellbrook's forward momentum, the city is considering establishing a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA). A public hearing was held in late June, and the proposal has generated significant local interest. A DORA would allow people to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating businesses and enjoy them outdoors within a designated district — a move that could further energize Bellbrook's downtown and attract new visitors.

Beavercreek Popcorn Festival (September, Weekend After Labor Day)

One of Beavercreek's signature annual events, the Popcorn Festival features over 200 booths with food, crafts, and — of course — popcorn in every form imaginable. There is a 5K popcorn run, a classic car show, a beer garden, and a dedicated kids area. It is the unofficial end-of-summer celebration for Beavercreek, and it draws visitors from across the region.

Springboro: ARTFest on Main, Boro Fest, and Concerts in the Park

Springboro has a packed late-summer calendar. ARTFest on Main returns on August 29, bringing a juried fine arts festival with local and regional artists showcasing their work along Main Street. The Boro Fest is another community celebration with live music and family activities. And the free Concerts in the Park series at North Park runs through August — bring a lawn chair and enjoy summer evenings in one of the fastest-growing communities in the Dayton area.

Dayton Horse Show (August 5-8)

The Dayton Horse Show returns for four days of top-notch equestrian competition in early August. Drawing riders and spectators from across the region, this is one of those events that highlights the agricultural and equestrian traditions that remain strong in the Miami Valley.

Fit Body Summer Fest at Wright State Nutter Center (August 14-16)

A fitness-themed festival at the Wright State Nutter Center with a children's play area, local vendors, workout events, and wrestling. A great option for families looking for a different kind of summer weekend experience.

Concours d'Elegance at Carillon Park (September 20)

One of the premier classic car and motorcycle shows in the Midwest, the Concours d'Elegance at Carillon Historical Park showcases 200 historical vehicles from the early 1900s through the 1960s. It is a stunning display of automotive history set against the backdrop of one of Dayton's great cultural institutions.

Ohio Is For Lovers Festival (September 5)

A music festival featuring bands like Silverstein, Hawthorne Heights, and Saves The Day. This is a major draw for the alternative and post-hardcore music crowd and brings visitors from across the state to Dayton.

Great Darke County Fair (August 21-29)

The Great Darke County Fair in Greenville is one of Ohio's largest and most traditional county fairs. Nine days of midway rides, livestock competitions, fair food, grandstand entertainment, and family-friendly activities. Worth the short drive from the Dayton suburbs.

Dayton International Airport: A $2 Million Transformation

One of the most significant developments this summer is the complete overhaul of dining and concessions at Dayton International Airport in Vandalia. Tailwind DAY LLC invested $2 million in capital improvements, creating five entirely new food and drink concepts that opened in phases through June 2026.

The lineup includes Warped Wing Brewery, a taproom from the popular Dayton-area craft brewery (replacing the former Max and Erma's space); Buckeye Pie Pizza, a fast-casual pizza concept; Dunkin', a fully upgraded and expanded location with hot sandwiches and grab-and-go items; The 1903, a sit-down dining experience on Concourse A; and Gem City Provisions, a convenient grab-and-go station. Renovations include upgraded bars, countertops, seating, lighting, and new TVs throughout all spaces.

On top of the new restaurants, Allegiant Air launched nonstop seasonal service between Dayton and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, running through September. It is a reminder that DAY continues to invest in the traveler experience, which matters when you are welcoming out-of-state buyers and relocating families to the Dayton area.

CAVA: First Dayton Location Confirmed

CAVA, the Mediterranean fast-casual chain, has confirmed its first Dayton-area location at 1111 Miamisburg Centerville Road in Washington Township, near Sam's Club. The company was actively hiring a general manager as of spring 2026, and the location is expected to open in mid-2026. CAVA plans to open more than 70 locations nationwide this year, and Dayton is finally getting one.

Major Developments Across the Suburbs

Beyond the events and restaurant openings, there is significant development activity across the suburbs that tells you a lot about where the market is headed.

Beavercreek: Chamber Business Center and New Developments

The Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce is opening its new Business Success Center this summer, described as a transformational step for small businesses in the area. Concord Commons/Grey Fox, a residential and commercial development, is advancing with plans for housing diversity and walkable design. Odyssey Systems celebrated an expansion of its presence near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and Rockford Homes is breaking ground on new construction home communities in Beavercreek.

Centerville / Washington Township: Cornerstone Is Just the Start

The Cornerstone of Centerville North development has reached full build-out after 12 years. The final Shoppes at Cornerstone IV retail strip center (10,100 square feet) is fully leased with tenants including Chicken Salad Chick and Body Bar Pilates. But that is just the beginning.

Cornerstone of Centerville South — a 72-acre mixed-use development south of I-675 — is advancing with plans for retail, restaurants, hotels, offices, and entertainment. CRG Residential has broken ground on a $58.1 million, 272-unit multi-family apartment community in Washington Township near Centerville. Vita Modern Homes is building new upscale townhomes at 170 S. Main Street in Uptown Centerville. And Global Gauge is expanding its operations in Centerville, creating new jobs.

Taken together, these developments represent a significant vote of confidence in the Centerville and Washington Township area. The combination of residential growth, retail expansion, and job creation is exactly what sustains property values over the long term.

Xenia: Summer Programs for Families

Beyond the major Kettering Health development (a $25 million health center under construction), Xenia schools have been running a Summer STEM Camp and a Summer Reading Bus program, bringing educational opportunities directly to neighborhoods throughout the community. These programs reflect the kind of community investment that makes a difference for families.

Fairborn: Celebrating 250 Years

Fairborn celebrated its 250th anniversary with a two-day July 4th celebration, with Norma Nikkola serving as parade grand marshal. The Sweet Corn Festival on August 15-16 continues the celebration, and the Skyway Plaza defense corridor development near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base continues to progress.
