One of the things I pay close attention to as a real estate professional is what is happening in the communities I serve — not just home prices and inventory, but the restaurants, shops, and businesses that shape the character of a neighborhood. When a new restaurant opens or a major retailer moves in, it tells you something about the health and trajectory of an area.

The greater Dayton area has seen a wave of new openings over the past year, from fast-casual spots in Beavercreek to downtown steakhouses and coffee shops in Kettering. Here is a look at what is new and what is coming.

New Restaurants Across the Suburbs

The suburbs have been the primary beneficiaries of new restaurant growth. Beavercreek, Centerville, and Kettering have all seen meaningful additions in the past 12 months.

Currito (Beavercreek & Centerville)

Currito brought its customizable bowls, salads, and wraps to the Dayton area with a location near Centerville in late 2025, followed by a second location in Centerville proper in early 2026. It fills a gap in the fast-casual market for health-conscious, build-your-own options — and the early response has been strong.

Meef's Pasteria (Beavercreek)

Homemade pasta in Beavercreek is exactly the kind of addition this area needed. Meef's Pasteria opened on Commons Boulevard and has quickly become a favorite for anyone who appreciates quality Italian food without the drive downtown.

Scramblers (The Greene)

The Greene in Beavercreek continues to evolve. Scramblers, a breakfast and brunch restaurant, is opening in early 2026 in the former Taste of Belgium space. With a patio and a 3,800-plus-square-foot footprint, it is a good fit for The Greene's outdoor dining culture.

Get the Pho Out (Kettering)

The name alone turns heads, but the food keeps people coming back. Get the Pho Out opened on West Stroop Road in Kettering with a menu of Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes. It is a welcome addition to Kettering's dining options.

Narco Burger (Kettering)

Narco Burger opened in Kettering in 2026 and quickly generated strong local buzz. It is one of those spots that feels like it belongs in the neighborhood from day one.

Toasted Brunch Bar + Cafe (Beavercreek)

Toasted Brunch Bar + Cafe opened its second location near The Greene in February 2026, bringing its popular brunch menu to one of Beavercreek's busiest retail corridors. The expansion reflects strong demand for quality breakfast and brunch options in the area.

Dolly's Burgers & Shakes (Miami Township)

Dolly's Burgers & Shakes opened in March 2026 in Miami Township, part of a wave of new restaurant activity across the Dayton region this spring. It joins several other new casual dining options that have recently debuted in the suburbs.

Poppets Coffee & Tea (Kettering)

A new cafe and retail space on East Dorothy Lane opened in early 2026, giving Kettering another quality coffee option in a neighborhood that values its local businesses.

The 8 (Downtown Dayton)

Opened in July 2026 near Day Air Ballpark, The 8 is a new sports bar by the Gulzar family that gives Dragons fans and downtown visitors another reason to stick around after the game. With a full menu and prime location steps from the ballpark, it fills a gap in the pregame and postgame dining scene that has been waiting for the right concept.

GoChop African Street Food (Centerville)

Dayton's first African street food concept had its grand opening on July 11, 2026 at 465 Miamisburg Centerville Road in Centerville. GoChop brings bold West African flavors — jollof rice, suya skewers, and fried plantains — to the south suburbs in a fast-casual format. It is the kind of authentic, owner-operated spot that makes the Dayton dining scene more interesting.

Bleu Wave Seafood & Pho (Beavercreek)

A concept you do not see every day. Bleu Wave Seafood & Pho opened at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek, combining fresh seafood with authentic Vietnamese pho. It gives shoppers at the mall a proper sit-down dining option and adds genuine diversity to Beavercreek's restaurant landscape.

Halal Burgers (Brown Street)

Halal Burgers opened in July 2026 in the former Smashburger space on Brown Street near the University of Dayton campus. It serves halal-certified burgers, chicken sandwiches, and sides, filling a need in the neighborhood for high-quality halal fast-casual options.

Desi Diner (Fairborn)

Fairborn welcomed Desi Diner at 60 S. Broad Street in March 2026, a new Indian-American restaurant concept that blends familiar diner classics with Indian flavors. Located near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, it has quickly become a popular lunch and dinner option for the defense corridor community.

Downtown Dayton: A Revival in Progress

Downtown Dayton is also seeing a wave of new energy. The Dayton Arcade, which underwent a major redevelopment, continues to attract new businesses. Lucho, a mezcal and espresso bar, opened in August 2025 inside the Arcade. Teardrop Steakhouse opened its doors on West First Street in June 2025. W. Social Tap & Table in the Wright Dunbar District added three new restaurant concepts in December 2025.

The downtown dining scene is more diverse and more active than it has been in years. For anyone considering a move closer to the urban core, these openings signal real momentum.

Retail: Dillard's, L.L.Bean, and More

It is not just restaurants. The retail landscape in Beavercreek is shifting in a meaningful way. Dillard's opened its first Dayton-area store at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in March 2026, filling the space left by Macy's. It was one of the most anticipated retail openings in the area.

Over at The Greene, L.L.Bean is planning to open a 10,600-square-foot store in fall 2026 — its first location in the Dayton market. The store will occupy the former Forever 21 space. This is a significant addition for The Greene and a signal that the shopping center continues to attract quality tenants.

Cava, the Mediterranean fast-casual chain, is opening its first Dayton-area location in the Washington Township/Centerville area in 2026 — a significant addition for the south suburbs. And Einstein Bros. Bagels opened its first Dayton-area store in June 2026, filling a gap in the local bagel market.

Beavercreek continues to attract investment beyond retail. Odyssey Systems, a defense contractor supporting Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, opened a newly renovated facility on Colonel Glenn Highway in March 2026. A new 12,000-square-foot Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce building is under construction off Indian Ripple Road. And Rockford Homes is developing a 121-home subdivision on 54 acres east of Grange Hall Road — a signal of continued residential demand in the area.

What This Means for Homeowners and Buyers

New restaurants and retail openings are not just nice to have — they are indicators of a healthy, growing community. When national brands like L.L.Bean and Dillard's choose to open in your area, it means the market is strong. When independent restaurants like Meef's Pasteria and Narco Burger take a chance on a neighborhood, it means the community supports local business.

For my clients, these are the details that make a difference. The house matters, but the neighborhood matters more. Knowing that new restaurants are opening, new shops are coming, and the community is investing in itself — that is the kind of information I want my clients to have.
