Fall is my favorite season in the Dayton area, and not just because I am a lifelong Dayton native who loves the way the Great Miami River valley lights up in gold and crimson. It is also the time of year when this region simply comes alive. Between the festivals in downtown, the pumpkin patches and apple orchards in Greene County, the leaf-peeping trails outside Yellow Springs, and a packed lineup of concerts and Broadway at the Schuster Center, there is something for everyone from September through November.

I spend my days helping people buy and sell homes across Beavercreek, Centerville, Bellbrook, Kettering, and the surrounding communities, which means I get to see firsthand what makes each neighborhood special as the seasons turn. This guide pulls together the best of what is actually happening and coming up this fall, from the can't-miss marquee events to the kinds of hidden-gem spots that make a community feel like home. Everything here is real, current, and worth checking out this season.

Festivals and Community Events

The fall festival calendar in the Dayton area is genuinely deep. Here is what I would put on your radar right now.

Ohio Renaissance Festival: Waynesville

One of the biggest and most beloved autumn traditions in the region, the Ohio Renaissance Festival runs weekends from September 5 through November 1 at Renaissance Park in nearby Waynesville. Nine themed weekends of full-contact jousting, artisan craft, giant turkey legs, and a complete 16th-century village. It draws families from across the Miami Valley, and because it runs so deep into the season, it is also one of the best reasons to still have plenty of autumn left after the leaves fall.

Dayton Dragons: Day Air Ballpark

The Great Dragons closed out their regular season with a six-game home stand at Day Air Ballpark from September 1 through 6 against West Michigan, and here is the fun part: they locked up a playoff spot for the first time since 2017. If you have not been to a game, Day Air Ballpark (the former Fifth Third Field) is one of the best minor-league experiences in the country. Catch the energy while baseball season is still running.

Dayton Greek Festival, Italian Fall Festa, and Taste of the Oregon District

Mid-September is a food-lover's paradise downtown. The Dayton Greek Festival (September 11 to 13) brings authentic Greek cuisine, live bouzouki music, and traditional dancing. Same weekend, the Italian Fall Festa at Bella Villa Hall serves homemade pasta, meatballs, cannoli, and bocce. Then on September 12, Taste of the Oregon District lets you sample dishes from the best restaurants in Dayton's most iconic dining neighborhood in one walkable afternoon.

Beavercreek Popcorn Festival

For those of us on the east side, the Beavercreek Popcorn Festival on September 12 and 13 is a hometown favorite. Kettle corn, local craft vendors, live music, and family activities in downtown Beavercreek. It is one of those community events that reminds you why this is such a great place to raise a family.

Air Force Marathon Weekend

The Air Force Marathon marks its 30th anniversary on September 19, with the full weekend running September 18 and 19 around Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Full marathon, half, 10K, 5K, and a Tailwind Trot for kids. This one is special to our community, and with WPAFB being such a big part of Dayton life, it is a weekend worth cheering on.

Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute

If you only go to one fall festival this year, make it the Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute on September 25 through 27. Established in 1971, it is Southwest Ohio's longest-running Oktoberfest, with more than 50 craft beers, live music on two stages, a massive food court, artisan vendors, and the iconic Weingarten on the museum's beautiful grounds overlooking the city.

Around the same weekend, Old Timers Days in downtown Xenia (September 25 to 27) is a classic Greene County community celebration worth the short drive.

October: Sauerkraut Festival, Yellow Springs, and Halloween

October is loaded. The Ohio Sauerkraut Festival in Waynesville (October 10 and 11) is one of the biggest craft festivals in the Midwest, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors to the whole town for over 400 juried crafters. The same weekend, the Yellow Springs Street Fair (October 10) fills downtown Yellow Springs with 200-plus vendors, live music, and the village's signature eclectic energy, while Xenia Fall Festival & Oktoberfest (October 10) brings crafts, a farmer's market, and a straw bale maze downtown.

Earlier in the month, Centerville Fall Fest at Stubbs Park (October 3), the Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience (October 3), and the Great Ohio Toys Show at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Xenia (October 3) round out a packed first weekend. Then for Halloween, the Fairborn Halloween Festival (October 16 to 18) is one of the area's largest, with a Spooktacular parade and costume contest, and Hauntfest on Fifth (October 31) closes the month with Dayton's biggest Halloween street party in the Oregon District.

Fall on the Farm: Pumpkins, Apples, and Corn Mazes

No fall guide is complete without the farms, and the Dayton area has some of the best in the state.

Young's Jersey Dairy: Yellow Springs

The icon. Young's Jersey Dairy runs its Fall Farm Pumpkin Fun from September 19 through November 1, with wagon rides out to a multi-acre pumpkin patch, a 3.5-acre corn maze, a petting zoo, mini-golf, and the homemade ice cream everyone drives for. It is the annual fall institution families across the region plan their whole season around, and it is only about 25 minutes from Beavercreek.

Lucas Brothers Fall Festival: Bellbrook

Less of a trek and right in Greene County, Lucas Brothers Fall Festival in Bellbrook (September 26 through October 26) offers a corn maze, hayrides, a pumpkin patch, and farm animals. For families in Bellbrook, Centerville, and the south suburbs, this is one of the best local bets for a perfect fall day out.

Apple Picking: Peifer, Tuken's, and Brumbaugh

For apple picking, Peifer Orchards in Yellow Springs offers u-pick apples from more than 20 varieties on weekends through October, plus a farm market with local goods. Head a little further for Tuken's Orchard & Farm Market in West Alexandria, which runs u-pick through November with 40-plus varieties including Honeycrisp, plus pears, pumpkins, and cider slushies. On the west side, Brumbaugh Fruit Farm in Arcanum sells apples, pressed apple cider, doughnuts, and more through Halloween, often with less of a crowd.

Niederman Family Farm and Fulton Farm

Niederman Family Farm (Hamilton) runs a 14-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, and hayrides on weekends from late September through October. And for a lesser-known local gem, Fulton Farm Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch (September 30 through October 29) near Tipp City is the spot locals love because it never feels overcrowded.

Get Outside: Fall Foliage and Trails

The best leaf-peeping in Ohio happens right here in Greene County, and the peak tends to fall in mid-to-late October.

John Bryan State Park and Clifton Gorge

John Bryan State Park in Yellow Springs is widely considered one of the best fall-color parks near Dayton. Hike the North Rim Trail for elevated views over the Little Miami gorge, or walk down to Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, where the Gorge Trail hugs the river with rushing water and a colorful canopy and the Rim Trail gives you that classic overlook. These two connect with Glen Helen Nature Preserve, which has more than 1,000 acres and 20-plus miles of trails. The Talus Trail above Yellow Springs Creek is especially golden in late autumn light.

Charleston Falls and Cox Arboretum

Just north in Tipp City, Charleston Falls Preserve offers an easy 2.4-mile loop to a 37-foot cascade nicknamed the Miniature Niagara. And in Dayton, climb the Tree Tower at Cox Arboretum MetroPark for a panoramic above-canopy view of the fall color across woodlands, ponds, and meadows.

Concerts, Broadway, and Sports

As the weather turns, the indoor and evening scene takes center stage.

The Schuster Center

The Schuster Center has a strong fall lineup. West Side Story lands on September 26, and the hit Broadway musical The Notebook runs October 6 through 11 as part of the new Broadway in Dayton season. On October 4, Neil deGrasse Tyson brings An Astrophysicist Goes To The Movies, Part 2 for a fascinating, entertaining evening.

The Rose Music Center

The Rose Music Center in Huber Heights has a stacked funk lineup this fall with the Flashback Funk Fest, featuring Ohio Players, Morris Day & The Time, ConFunkShun, and Lakeside. A can't-miss night of funk and soul that will have you dancing from the first note.

University of Dayton Flyers

As a Dayton grad and a proud Flyers fan, this one is close to my heart. Flyers basketball tips off the 2026-27 season at UD Arena on November 2. Welcome Stadium also hosts Flyers football all fall, starting with the home opener on September 12. There is nothing quite like game night at UD Arena in winter.

Farmers Markets and Cozy Spots

For a slower-paced fall, lean into the markets.

The Greene County Farmers Market of Beavercreek runs Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., through October at 4051 Indian Ripple Road. Downtown, 2nd Street Market stays open year-round on weekends with produce, flowers, bakers, and artisans, making it a warm, cozy stop as the temperature drops. And in Yellow Springs, the farmers market runs Saturday mornings through the season, easily paired with coffee at one of the village's many great little cafes.

What This Means for the Communities I Serve

I have been doing this for over 20 years, and one thing I have learned is that the best proof of a thriving community is the calendar of things that bring people together. A Renaissance festival that runs all season. A popcorn festival that fills downtown Beavercreek. A Farm Fest that turns Bellbrook into the place to be in October. New Broadway shows at the Schuster, a playoff-bound team at Day Air Ballpark, and some of the best apple orchards in Ohio a short drive away.

These are not random data points. They are the signs of a region people are choosing to invest in, build in, and raise their families in. When I help a family buy a home in Beavercreek or Centerville or Kettering, I am not just matching them with a floor plan and a school district. I am matching them with a community and a lifestyle, and fall is the best time of year to feel exactly what that means.
