The Greater Dayton area does not slow down in the summer — it speeds up. From the Fourth of July fireworks that just lit up every suburb in the metro to the Celtic Festival, Bacon Fest, the Greene County Fair, and ZZ Top rolling into Fraze Pavilion, there is no shortage of reasons to get out and enjoy what this community has to offer. On top of that, new restaurants and businesses are opening across the suburbs at a pace I have not seen in years.

I have put together a comprehensive guide to what is happening across Dayton and every surrounding community — Beavercreek, Centerville, Kettering, Xenia, Fairborn, Springboro, Bellbrook, Tipp City, and Vandalia — through the end of summer and into early fall. Whether you live here or are considering a move to the area, this is what you need to know.

Events Worth Putting on Your Calendar

The summer event calendar across the Dayton metro is stacked. Here are the ones I think are worth your time — from major festivals to community concerts to the signature events that make this area feel like home.

United Irish of Dayton Celtic Festival (July 24–26)

If you missed the Fourth of July, the Celtic Festival at RiverScape MetroPark in downtown Dayton is your next best bet. Three days of live Celtic music, Irish dancing, food, and cultural exhibits — all with free admission. The riverfront setting makes it one of the most scenic festival experiences in the region, and it regularly draws over 90,000 attendees across the weekend.

Party in the Park — Centerville (July 10 & August 14)

The Heart of Centerville Washington Township hosts Party in the Park at Stubbs Park on July 10 and August 14. These are family-friendly events with live music, food, and a community atmosphere that captures exactly why Centerville is one of the most desirable suburbs in the area. The July 10 event features the Stranger and the Fries Band from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.

Beavercreek Summer Entertainment Series

Beavercreek's free Summer Entertainment Series continues through August with community concerts featuring music, dancing, and family fun. Events are held on select dates at various venues throughout the city. The July 26 event features the Smithville South Band from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Check the City of Beavercreek website for the full schedule and locations.

Bacon Fest — Kettering (August 2)

Bacon Fest at Fraze Pavilion is one of the most popular events of the summer. Local vendors serve creative bacon-inspired dishes, paired with drinks and live music. If you enjoy good food in a festival setting, this is one of the best events Kettering puts on all year.

Greene County Fair — Xenia (August 2–8)

The Greene County Fair is a week-long celebration of summer with rides, livestock competitions, food vendors, and live entertainment. For families in Xenia, Bellbrook, and the surrounding communities, this is one of the signature events of the season.

Kettering Civic Band at Polen Farm

The Kettering Civic Band performs free summer concerts at Polen Farm throughout July and August. It is a classic summer-in-the-suburbs experience — bring a lawn chair, enjoy the music, and appreciate one of Kettering's most beautiful settings.

Germanfest Picnic — Dayton (August 14–16)

Germanfest Picnic is one of Dayton's most beloved traditions. Three days of German food, beer, music, and community at the Dayton Liederkranz Turner. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is welcoming, and it is a great way to spend a summer weekend experiencing the cultural depth of this city.

Dayton Porchfest (August 22)

Dayton Porchfest takes over the St. Anne's Hill Historic District with free mini concerts performed on front porches throughout the neighborhood. It is one of the most uniquely Dayton events of the summer — a celebration of music, community, and one of the city's most charming neighborhoods.

Dayton Funk Festival (August)

Dayton's connection to funk music runs deep, and the Dayton Funk Festival at Levitt Pavilion celebrates that heritage with live performances. The concert series at Levitt runs from May 30 through September 19, with free shows every Thursday through Sunday. All concerts are free and open to the public.

ZZ Top at Fraze Pavilion (August 30)

ZZ Top brings "The Big One!" tour to Fraze Pavilion in Kettering on August 30 at 7:30 PM. Fraze consistently brings national acts to the area, and this is one of the highlights of the summer concert calendar. Gates open at 6:30 PM.

Free Concerts at RiverScape MetroPark

The Summer Music Series at RiverScape MetroPark continues with free concerts under the pavilion every Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, running through early September. The riverfront setting makes these some of the best free entertainment options in the area.

Looking Ahead: September and Fall

As summer winds down, the calendar stays full. Here is what to look forward to heading into fall.

U.S. Air Force Marathon Weekend — Fairborn (September 18–19)

The premier running event in the region features a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon through Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and surrounding areas. It attracts runners from across the country and is a source of pride for the entire region. Even if you are not running, the events, expos, and finish-line celebrations create an energy that spills into Fairborn and Beavercreek.

Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute (September 26)

Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute is one of Dayton's signature fall events. A major annual fundraiser with food, beer, live music, and the stunning backdrop of the Art Institute's Italian Renaissance-style architecture. It draws thousands of attendees and is consistently one of the best-attended events of the fall season.

Dayton Art Institute — Free Admission Weekends

The Dayton Art Institute offers free admission on August 29–30, making it a great opportunity to experience one of the region's premier art institutions. Current exhibitions include "Captivating Clay: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection" and "Fighters for Freedom: William H. Johnson Picturing Justice" (through September 13).

Levitt Pavilion Concert Season Through September 19

The Levitt Pavilion's 2026 season runs through September 19 with free concerts every Thursday through Sunday evening at 7:00 PM. No tickets or RSVP needed — just show up and enjoy live music in one of downtown Dayton's best outdoor settings.

New Restaurants and Grand Openings

The restaurant and retail scene across the Dayton metro continues to evolve. Here is what has opened recently and what is on the way.

Resonant — Oregon District, Downtown Dayton

Resonant is the most anticipated restaurant opening in Dayton this year. From the owners of Grist, it is a multi-course tasting-menu experience at 524 E. Fifth St. in the Oregon District. The four-course dinner runs 90 to 105 minutes and represents a level of fine dining that downtown Dayton has been building toward for years. Opened June 18, 2026.

Kawa Revolving Sushi — Beavercreek

The region's first revolving sushi bar is now open on Centre Drive in Beavercreek, in the former Jason's Deli space. Kawa brings a unique dining concept to the area — conveyor belt-style sushi service with a full menu of Japanese dishes. It has been generating strong local interest since its soft opening.

Panda Express — Beavercreek

Construction is underway for a new Panda Express at 2761 Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek. It will be the chain's first location in the Beavercreek market, adding to the dining options along the Fairfield Commons corridor.

Cava — Washington Township / Centerville

Cava, the Mediterranean fast-casual chain, is opening its first Dayton-area location in the Washington Township/Centerville area. It fills a gap in the south-suburb dining market for fresh, customizable Mediterranean bowls and wraps.

Einstein Bros. Bagels — Dayton Area

Einstein Bros. Bagels opened its first Dayton-area location in June 2026, bringing the national bagel chain to the local market for the first time. A welcome addition for anyone who has been driving to Columbus or Cincinnati for a decent bagel.

L.L.Bean — The Greene, Beavercreek

L.L.Bean is planning to open a 10,600-square-foot store at The Greene in fall 2026 — its first location in the Dayton market. The store will occupy the former Forever 21 space. It is a significant addition for The Greene and a signal that the shopping center continues to attract quality national tenants.

Beyond these highlights, the restaurants that opened earlier this year continue to make their mark. Currito has expanded into Centerville, Meef's Pasteria is a Beavercreek favorite, Toasted Brunch Bar + Cafe added a second location near The Greene, and spots like Narco Burger, Get the Pho Out, and Poppets Coffee & Tea have all found strong followings in Kettering.

One of the things I have learned after 20 years in this market is that the strength of a community shows up in more than just home prices and school ratings. It shows up in the festivals, the restaurants, the businesses that choose to open here, and the way people come together. Every event on this calendar, every new restaurant that opens, is a reflection of a community that is investing in itself.

For my clients who are buying or relocating to the Dayton area, these are the details that matter. The house is important, but the neighborhood — and what happens in it — is what makes it feel like home.
