Late November in Dayton:
Tree Lightings & the
Holiday Kickoff.

By Jason White
A small-town Ohio main street on the evening of its holiday tree lighting, with a glowing Christmas tree at the center, warm string lights between historic storefronts, and families gathered in the golden dusk

02

Fresh for late November and December 2026 across the greater Dayton area and suburbs: the holiday season officially starts the weekend of November 21 with tree lightings at The Greene in Beavercreek, downtown Tipp City, Benham's Grove in Centerville, and the Christmas in Historic Springboro weekend, then carries through Woodland Lights, A Carillon Christmas, ParkLights in Xenia, and the Grande Illumination downtown on the day after Thanksgiving. I also have the first-ever Dayton Pizza Week, Fairborn's pickle-themed food truck rally, and every suburban tree lighting and winter light display worth circling.

My late October and November guide covered Wag O Ween, Veterans Day, and the holiday kickoff downtown. This is everything new since, focused on the tree lightings, light displays, and community markets that turn the last two months of the year into the season the suburbs do best.

Here is everything fresh I have not covered before.

The Holiday Season Starts in the Suburbs

The Greene Christmas Tree Lighting & Santa Arrival Parade: Saturday, November 21

Beavercreek's signature holiday kickoff returns to The Greene Town Center on Saturday, November 21 at 5 p.m. The evening stacks a Santa arrival parade, a DJ, local dance teams, a Nutcracker performance by the Ohio Performing Arts Institute, and a reindeer petting zoo before the tree lighting itself. For families in Beavercreek, Fairborn, and the east side of the metro, this is the moment the season feels official, and it is completely free to attend.

Tipp City Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting: Saturday, November 21

The same evening, downtown Tipp City lights up for the annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting at 6 p.m., with this year's theme Twinkling Tidings in Tipp. Tipp City then keeps the season going all month with the Tippecanoe and Christmas Too historic home tour on December 5-6, after-hours Moonlight & Mistletoe shopping, and the Tipp City Lights driving tour and contest running December 6-25 from 6-9 p.m. If you have been considering a home in the Tipp City school district, this is the stretch of the year that shows off the small-town feel families move for.

Christmas in Historic Springboro: November 21-22

Historic downtown Springboro fills the weekend with more than 70 craft and food vendors, a 5K run and walk, live music, and the holiday parade on Sunday, November 22. The antique shops and boutiques along Main Street stay part of the celebration, which makes it an easy stop for anyone in Springboro, Centerville, or southern Montgomery County. It pairs perfectly with the Centerville tree lighting on the same Sunday.

Centerville Tree Lighting at Benham's Grove: Sunday, November 22

Centerville's tree lighting happens at the historic Benham's Grove on Sunday, November 22, kicking off the season in the heart of town. It is a smaller, more traditional gathering than the big shopping-center events, and it is exactly the kind of neighborhood moment I love pointing buyers toward when they ask what it actually feels like to live in Centerville.

Winter Light Displays Across the Metro

Woodland Lights at Countryside Park

One of the area's best walk-through light displays, Woodland Lights at Countryside Park on Miamisburg-Centerville Road in Washington Township, runs Friday through Sunday evenings from 6-9 p.m., November 20 through December 14, with extra nights December 19-23 and 26-30. Tickets are $9 for ages 3 and up. It is a genuinely beautiful display, and the township location puts it minutes from Centerville, Springboro, and Kettering.

A Carillon Christmas: November 25-December 30

A Carillon Christmas transforms Carillon Historical Park into a winter wonderland of lights, with Santa, train rides, and concerts running November 25 through December 30. It opens the night before Thanksgiving, so it is one of the first big displays of the season, and it is a wonderful first-date-with-Dayton event for anyone new to the area.

ParkLights at Caesar Ford Park & XeniaLights in Xenia

Xenia goes all-in on lights in December. ParkLights at Caesar Ford Park is a free mile-long drive-thru display running December 1-31 from 6-9 p.m. as part of the Ohio Holiday Lights Trail. Meanwhile XeniaLights at Shawnee Park glows nightly all December from 5 p.m. to midnight, with music on 104.1 FM, and Greg's Christmas World at 629 Layne Drive is a local family light display worth seeking out. For families relocating near Greene County, this is the season that makes the decision feel right.

A winter light trail through a park at night with thousands of colored lights strung through trees and arches over a snow-dusted path, families strolling in the distance

From Woodland Lights in Washington Township to ParkLights in Xenia, the suburbs light up from Thanksgiving through New Year's.

Downtown Dayton: The Grande Illumination

Grande Illumination & the Dayton Children's Parade: Friday, November 27

The region's signature holiday moment is the Grande Illumination and the Dayton Children's Parade at Courthouse Square on Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. The Downtown Dayton Partnership hosts the free community tree lighting and parade, a tradition that began in 1972 with Virginia Kettering. It is the one night downtown that every family in the metro, from Bellbrook to Vandalia, tends to plan around.

Feast of Giving: Thanksgiving Day

Before the big parade, the Dayton Convention Center hosts the Feast of Giving on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, a free community meal that welcomes anyone who needs a seat at the table. It is one of the most meaningful traditions on the calendar, and it is a reminder of how generous this region is with its own people.

Before the Holidays: Mid-November Events

Dayton Pizza Week: November 10-16

The first-ever Dayton Pizza Week runs November 10-16 across the metro, with participating pizzerias in Dayton and the suburbs offering specials all week. From Detroit-style squares in Miamisburg to the Indian-fusion pies in Fairborn, it is a great excuse to eat your way through the area's best ovens, and a fun way for new residents to find their neighborhood go-to.

National Pickle Day Food Truck Rally: Saturday, November 14

Fairborn's National Pickle Day Food Truck Rally returns to Hobson Freedom Park on Trebein Road on Saturday, November 14 from noon-5 p.m., with trucks from around the region serving everything pickled. It is quirky, family-friendly, and free to browse, and it is the kind of event that shows how much personality the Fairborn community packs into a Saturday.

AcadeCon: November 6-8 at the Dayton Convention Center

For gamers, AcadeCon runs November 6-8 at the Dayton Convention Center, a weekend of board games, RPGs, vendors, and open gaming tables for all ages. It fills a real niche downtown and draws players from across Ohio, and it is proof that the Convention Center corridor keeps adding reasons to spend a weekend in Dayton.

The December Tree Lightings

Kettering Mayor's Tree Lighting: Saturday, December 5

Kettering's free Mayor's Tree Lighting returns Saturday, December 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Lincoln Park Civic Commons, the Fraze Pavilion complex on Lincoln Park Boulevard, with Santa and Mrs. Claus, postcards to Santa, and carriage rides around the park. Kettering also hosts the Community Holiday Concert on Tuesday, December 15 at 7 p.m. at Trent Arena, a free evening of seasonal music.

Xenia Hometown Christmas: Saturday, December 5

Xenia's Hometown Christmas fills Shawnee Park on Saturday, December 5 from 5-9 p.m. with Santa, carriage rides, and the opening of XeniaLights. The Greene County Courthouse tree lighting, a century-old tradition, anchors the downtown around the same time. Between Hometown Christmas, ParkLights, and XeniaLights, Xenia may have the most lights per square mile in the metro.

Vandalia Tree Lighting & Holiday Market: December 5-6

Vandalia's tree lighting at the Recreation Center on Stonequarry Road lands December 5-6 with a holiday market, vendors, entertainment, and Santa photos, and it is free. It is a relaxed, family-first event, and it is the centerpiece of Vandalia's early December calendar.

Light Up Bellbrook: Saturday, December 12

Bellbrook's Light Up Bellbrook parade and Christmas in the Park run Saturday, December 12, with the parade stepping off from East Street at 5 p.m. and the festival continuing at Bellbrook Park with seasonal music, crafts, hot chocolate, popcorn, and Santa. It is a small-town celebration in the truest sense, and it is a perfect night out for Bellbrook and Sugarcreek Township families.

Fresh Eats to Round Out the Season

The holidays are also the season of new openings. Dave's Hot Chicken just opened its first Dayton-region location across from the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek, Crumbl Cookies opened on North Fairfield Road, and Jet's Pizza landed on Springboro Pike in Miamisburg, bringing Detroit-style square pizza to the Centerville and Springboro market. I have the full rundown, including the honest status of every project still on the tracker, in my new restaurants and grand openings roundup.

Why I Track All of This

This is the stretch of the year when the suburbs do what they do best. A reindeer petting zoo at The Greene, a parade down the main street of Tipp City, a walk-through light display in a Washington Township park, a drive-thru trail through Caesar Ford Park, and a tree lighting at a historic grove in Centerville: taken together, that is a region families choose on purpose.

For buyers, this is the context that makes a community feel like home before the offer is ever written. For sellers, it means your street sits inside a region with the kind of energy that keeps demand steady through the holidays. And for anyone considering the move from another state, this is the Dayton I know: welcoming, active, and full of reasons to put down roots.

Whether you are buying, selling, or just curious about what your home might be worth, I am here with straight answers and a strategy that fits your situation.

"From a reindeer petting zoo at The Greene to a parade through downtown Tipp City to a drive-thru light trail in Xenia, the last two months of the year are when our neighborhoods show off, and I want my clients to feel as close to it as I do."
