Mid-October 2026: Halloween
Season, New Restaurants &
Grand Openings.
By Jason White
Fresh for the middle of October 2026: Halloween season is officially here, and the calendar between now and the 31st is packed. The Victoria Theatre fills the week with Outlander in Concert and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Beavercreek turns Dominick Lofino Park into its Boo Bash Trail on Saturday the 17th, Springboro's Windmill Farm Market hosts its Spooktacular Fall Festival the same weekend, and the 40th Oregon District Hauntfest plus the Vandalia Halloween Hangout anchor the weekend of the 24th. On the dining and development side, Underground Chuck's is now open in the former O'Charley's on the Miamisburg-Centerville Road, the Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce is finishing its new building off Indian Ripple Road, and Xenia's Market District just landed a fresh state housing grant.
Last week's guide covered the Sauerkraut Festival weekend and the first wave of October events; this is everything new since, plus the trick-or-treat schedule you will want saved. Communities across Beavercreek, Centerville, Springboro, Bellbrook, Kettering, Xenia, Fairborn, Vandalia, and Tipp City have their fall calendars out, and the next three weeks are the busiest of the season.
Here is everything fresh I have not covered before.
New Restaurants and Grand Openings
Underground Chuck's Is Now Open on the Miamisburg-Centerville Road
The biggest dining news this week is that Underground Chuck's has opened in the former O'Charley's at 2260 Miamisburg-Centerville Road, on the busy corridor between Centerville and the Dayton Mall. It is an American comfort-food spot with a serious bar: craft brews, signature cocktails, and a menu built around burgers, sandwiches, and plates meant to share. The location puts it minutes from the Mall itself and right on the main drag for South Dayton commuters, and it fills a gap that neighborhood has been waiting on since O'Charley's closed.
The Tracker Rolls On: Scramblers, Black Rock, Whoa Dogs and Hummus & Garlic
Every project I have been following since the summer is still moving. Scramblers keeps building out its first Dayton-area location in the former Taste of Belgium space at The Greene, Black Rock Bar and Grill is still on the way to the front of the Mall at Fairfield Commons, Whoa Dogs has its Oregon District lease finalized with the City of Dayton, and Hummus and Garlic is preparing the former So Pizza space near the Dayton Mall. None of them has a confirmed opening date yet, and I will post the moment any one lands. My guide from last week has the full rundown on each location.
Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce: A New Building Off Indian Ripple Road
Beyond the kitchens, there is a grand opening to watch in Beavercreek. The Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce is wrapping up its new 12,000-square-foot building off Indian Ripple Road, with the move expected before the end of the year. A chamber this size building its own headquarters is a strong signal about how much business activity the city is drawing, and it is one more piece of momentum for a suburb that keeps adding commercial energy to go with its schools and neighborhoods.
Xenia's Market District: The $140 Million Bet Keeps Growing
Xenia's Market District continues to take shape. The mixed-use development on the city's main corridor landed a $1 million Ohio Housing Grant this fall, tied to 296 new homes planned inside the district, on top of the retail and restaurant components already under way. For buyers watching Greene County, this is the kind of development that changes a market over time: new rooftops bring new demand, and Xenia remains one of the most affordable family communities in the county. I have the fuller Greene County picture in my late-September and October guide.
Beavercreek's Boo Bash Trail turns Dominick Lofino Park into a free trick-or-treat trail on Saturday morning, October 17.
The Victoria Theatre: Four Shows, One Week
Outlander in Concert: October 15
Outlander in Concert brings the beloved time-travel series to the Victoria Theatre on Thursday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m., with the story on screen and a full orchestra performing the score live beneath it. Whether you have watched every season or just love a big-sound score in a beautiful room, it is a transportive midweek night out, and it is a show that rarely comes through town.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show Spooktacular: October 16
The Rocky Horror Picture Show Spooktacular lands Friday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Victoria, with special guest Nell Campbell, who played Columbia in the original 1975 film. It is a live screening of the cult classic with audience participation in full force, and it is the perfect warm-up for Halloweekend. Costumes encouraged, and tickets always move faster than you expect.
Among Wild Predators with Casey Anderson: October 18-19
Wildlife filmmaker Casey Anderson brings the Discovery series Among Wild Predators to the Victoria for daytime shows on Sunday, October 18 and Monday, October 19. If you have kids who cannot stop watching wildlife documentaries, this is the event of the month for them, with big-screen animal encounters and the storytelling that made Anderson a television regular.
Dayton Ballet: A Midsummer Night's Dream & Force Flux: October 24
On Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m., Dayton Ballet pairs the Shakespeare classic A Midsummer Night's Dream with Force Flux, a contemporary commission, for one evening at the Victoria. It is a full program that shows off the company's range, and a sophisticated pick for a fall date night downtown.
The Halloween Weekend Lineup
Fairborn Halloween Festival: October 16-18
The region's biggest Halloween street festival is back in downtown Fairborn October 16-18, with food and craft vendors, carnival rides, a beer garden, live music, and the Spooktacular Costume Contest and Parade Friday night. It is free to attend, and my late-September guide has the full rundown on the weekend.
Windmill Farm Market Spooktacular Fall Festival IV: Springboro
In Springboro, Windmill Farm Market hosts its fourth annual Spooktacular Fall Festival October 16-18, with pumpkins, fall family activities, and the market's seasonal treats. It lines up perfectly with the Fairborn weekend, so families can pick their Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and still catch everything.
Boo Bash Trail: Beavercreek, October 17
Beavercreek families get their own signature event on Saturday, October 17 from 9-11 a.m. The Boo Bash Trail at Dominick Lofino Park, 640 Grange Hall Road, turns the park into a trick-or-treat trail with festive displays, costumed characters, and big and emergency vehicles for the kids to climb through and explore. It is free, it is one of the most photographed mornings of the year in Beavercreek, and the early time means even the littlest ghosts can make it. Details are on the city's site, beavercreekohio.gov.
Hauntfest, the Vandalia Halloween Hangout and The Carpenters
The weekend of the 24th stacks three very different reasons to get out. The 40th annual Oregon District Hauntfest takes over 501 E. Fifth Street on Saturday, October 24 with the theme Horror Through the Decades: costume contests, live music, and the district's famously creative crowd. The same morning, Vandalia hosts its free Halloween Hangout at the Vandalia Sports Complex from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a relaxed daytime version with games and treats. And for a smooth, nostalgic evening, The Carpenters Songbook: A Live Celebration plays the Schuster Center at 8 p.m. You genuinely cannot do all three, and that is the point: there is something for every kind of Halloween family this year.
Beggars' Night: Save the Dates
Most Suburbs Trick-or-Treat Saturday, October 31 from 6-8 p.m.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and most Dayton-area communities keep the long-standing 6-8 p.m. window. As of today, Beavercreek, Centerville, Kettering, Xenia, Fairborn, Springboro, Bellbrook, and Vandalia all follow the traditional Saturday-night schedule of October 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. Kettering's city site puts it plainly: trick-or-treat is always on October 31 from 6-8 p.m.
Tipp City Keeps Its Thursday Tradition
The one exception in the region is Tipp City, which has traditionally held Beggars' Night on the Thursday before Halloween, October 29 from 6-8 p.m. It is a quirk locals love and newcomers always learn about the hard way, so if you are in Tipp City, clear the calendar two nights early. Cities can adjust schedules closer to the date, so confirm with your own municipality before the big night.
October is the busiest month on the suburban social calendar, from festival Saturdays to Beggars' Night.
Beyond Halloween: A Look Ahead
The Chocolate Festival Comes to Xenia
Before the costumes come out, one date worth circling now: the Dayton Chocolate Festival moves to the Greene County Expo Center in Xenia on Saturday, October 17, with chocolatiers, food trucks, vendor hall, and a free Kids Zone. Base families can pair it with the Great Pumpkin Palooza at Turtle Pond on October 22, covered in my mid-October Wright-Patterson guide.
Young's, Lucas Brothers and the Pumpkin Patches Keep Going
The farm fall season rolls through the month. Lucas Brothers Fall Festival keeps its corn maze and wagon rides going in Bellbrook through October 25, and Young's Jersey Dairy runs pick-your-own pumpkins daily through October 25 with Haunted Wagon Rides on Friday and Saturday nights. The full farm lineup is in my complete fall guide.
Why I Track All of This
This is the stretch of the year where the suburbs show off. A trick-or-treat trail in a Beavercreek park, a 40-year-old Hauntfest in the Oregon District, a farm festival in Springboro, a new comfort-food restaurant open on the road between Centerville and the Dayton Mall, a chamber building its own headquarters, and a $140 million district adding homes in Xenia: taken together, that is a region families are choosing on purpose.
For buyers, this is the context that makes a community feel like home before the offer is ever written. For sellers, it means your street sits inside a region with the kind of energy that keeps demand steady even in the fall. And for anyone considering the move from another state, this is the Dayton I know: welcoming, active, and full of reasons to put down roots.
Whether you are buying, selling, or just curious about what your home might be worth, I am here with straight answers and a strategy that fits your situation.
"From the Boo Bash Trail in Beavercreek to the 40th Hauntfest in the Oregon District, this is the month our neighborhoods do what they do best, and I want my clients to feel as close to it as I do."
